The Estates
The “Canteras” plot- Exclusive for Colección 125 Chardonnay-
Our Chardonnay vineyards are located in a small “dip slope” in the Santa Bárbara Mountain. The soil consists of smooth sandstone layers that rest over a series of resistant conglomerates and sandstones form ridges. Above each of these resistant beds, softer sediments have eroded to form small basins that have accumulated a thin cover of collivium, the soft substrate in which the vines have been planted.
The topography of the vineyard, within the “dip slope” where it is located, has slopes facing south, north and east, providing a variation in sun exposure and therefore creating climatic differences.
All these differences in the soil, the climate and facings make of the “Canteras” plot a unique piece of land with different subzones that are managed, controlled and vinified separately in order to express at its pick the special characteristics of this vineyard.
The Red and Rosé Soils – Exclusive for Colección 125 Reserva and Rosé-
The soils where the vineyards that give origin to the rest of our Colección 125 wines are of great antiquity. They go back to the Triassic era and have recent sediments from local glaciers as well as a degradation of the bed rock which is of chalky nature.
In general, they are soils of little fertility and with little depth, therefore assuring a correct balance of the productive level that we look for in our vineyards. However, each individual parcel has its particular characteristics; from the presence of abundant gravel to muddy grounds but with variable proportions of clays, marls, sand and limestone.
